Spring University of Maryland Graduation Session | Sonyah, Emma & Taylor
Spring UMD Graduation Session – BFF Edition with Sonyah, Emma and Taylor.
Sessions like this are one of the many reasons I love being a UMD Graduation Photographer. When Sonyah reached out to me about planning a graduation session for her and her two best friends, Emma and Taylor, I knew right away it was going to be such a fun afternoon. These three showed up ready to celebrate, laugh, and make the most of their time on campus before officially becoming UMD alums. From the start, it was clear how close their friendship is; the kind where you can’t stop laughing and you just know you’re capturing moments they’ll look back on for years. We explored some of the prettiest spots around campus, stopping for both the classic grad photos and a few spontaneous moments that perfectly captured their energy. It’s sessions like this that remind me how lucky I am to be part of such an exciting chapter in people’s lives at the University of Maryland.
A UMD Graduation Photographer’s favorite photo locations on campus
Though I didn’t attended UMD, I have all of the insider info on the best places to take photos! When I first moved to the DMV, the idea of being close to, and potentially capturing more graduation sessions made me equally excited and nervous! I was most nervous about taking photos at a large new campus that I didn’t know much about. Luckily I’ve had my very own personal tour guide since the beginning as my partner Zak graduated from UMD! Now I’m confidently able to guide and direct grads before and during their sessions!
McKeldin Mall is a not only a favorite location of mine on campus, but a lot of my grads! There is so much to offer at the mall, especially if you’re looking for a variety of backdrops for photos. From the fountain to the to the tree-lined walkways, Testudo plus McKeldin Library and of course you can’t forget the columns on the buildings surrounding the mall. Not too far from the mall is The “M” or as I like to call it the flowerbed M lol. During graduation they replant red flowers and it always looks stunning! As long as you bring your walking shoes, hitting all of these spots during your graduation session should be a breeze!

Thank you for allowing me to capture such a special milestone. Your laughter and energy made this session an absolute joy to photograph. It was such a privilege to celebrate this season of your life with you. Congratulations on all that you’ve accomplished and everything that’s still ahead! I can’t wait to see what comes next. <3
